In our sunny, wheelchair-accessible, two-story Carroll Gardens studio at 67 Woodhull Street in Carroll Gardens we offer classes & workshops, private lessons, community events, paint & sips, parties, exhibits, live models & more!
We host classes in many mediums, but our focus in on teaching people of all ages the transformative art of painting and we offer classes in most types of painting, including acrylics, watercolor and oil.
Our classes are fun, lively, welcoming and inclusive.Everyone belongs at The Painting School.
The Painting School is a community of people who live creative lives and are always learning. We know how to have a great time while making art.
But while the vibe is fun, the teaching is serious.
Our classes are not just a social diversion. Our teaching is deep and meaningful and often results in students incorporating art into their lives, whether as a lifelong creative or meditative practice, or as a way to feel more confident and engaged when going to museums.
We tie all of our teaching into the broader context of art history and contemporary art and our students leave with more knowledge about everything from ancient art to current art exhibits, which allows for a much deeper experience when going to galleries and museums.

THE PAINTING SCHOOL WAS FOUNDED by painter and writer Sara Woster who, after attending art school and spending decades developing her own painting practice, began teaching painting in 2017 in an effort to bring art opportunities to her community.
