We are so excited to have the amazing Alexa Saxton Thomas offering this 8-week beginner to intermediate watercolor and drawing class that explores the vibrant moods and changing atmosphere of fall through expressive techniques inspired by artists like Edgar Degas, Berthe Morisot, Pierre Bonnard, David Hockney, Édouard Vuillard, Joan Mitchell.

Students will deepen their confidence in both drawing and painting while experimenting with charcoal, watercolor, and pastel to capture gesture, light, color, and seasonal landscapes, figure drawing and still life drawings and paintings. 

Each week focuses on a different aspect of autumn: figures in motion, warm interiors, bold color compositions, and quiet natural scenes, building toward a final mixed media project that blends observation, memory, and personal artistic choices.

We will support one another as a creative community, encouraging risk-taking, sharing ideas, and celebrating each other’s progress during a fun Fall seaso

We will cover:

• Seasons as subject & mood

• Color and gesture

• Abstraction through realism

• The figure and composition 

• Painting from life and memory

• Charcoal (expressive + structural)

• Watercolor + Gouache (layering, glazing, impressionistic techniques)

• Soft & oil pastel (on toned and watercolor bases)
