Tuesday Morning Painting - Starts on September 15th

Tuesday Morning Painting - Starts on September 15th
This 8-week class will be built around art exercises that elevate skills around value and form, portrait and figure painting, and will be the basis of a series. As always, this class will focus on figuring out who the painter is an artist and how to get them to the next level of painting.
Students enrolled in weekly classes will have access to the studio in designated hours in the weekend.
We will start a class with fabric or tissues paintings in the spirit of Hugo McCloud, and then turn those into a painting on canvas.
We look at how Monet captures light and use it to paint our own gardens or a favorite place in Venice.
We will look at the portraiture of Whistler and Monet and then stage a similar highly-contrasted portrait of somebody we love.
We will look at sublime art, like that of Casper David Friedrich, and make our own world sublime.
We will paint an outer space world of moons and stars in order to think about value, pattern, and mixing chromatic blacks.
We will explore surrealism and symbolism by looking at the work of Gertrude Abercrombie and De Chirico.
