65 WOODHULL STREET, CARROLL GARDENS, BROOKLYN

Since 2017 The Painting School has offered art classes to children and adults in Brooklyn and the Catskills. In our sunny, two-story Carroll Gardens studio (at 65 Woodhull Street) we offer classes, corporate workshops, paint & sips, parties & more!

For fun people who are serious about art.

While we are built around a belief that painting is a truly transformative art form, our classes and workshops feature a wide range of mediums and art forms and are taught by a variety of practicing artists who are committed sharing their art with others.

Kids and adults have fun growing their skill set, building creative confidence, making great art and learning about art history and contemporary art.

We are dedicated to building community around art and helping people lead more meaningful lives with art at the center.

We have led art classes and workshops in partnership with the Bryant Park Corporation, Clinique, NYC Cultural Affairs, The Ned, the Friend of Firefighters, Powell Communications, Red Hook Art Project, South Dakota Humanities Council, Wallkill River Center for the Arts, Main Street Arts, the Red Hook Library and more.

We offer group classes, private classes, corporate workshops and community-based classes for artists of all ages, from seniors to kids.

THE PAINTING SCHOOL WAS FOUNDED

by painter and writer Sara Woster who, after attending art school and spending decades focused on developing her own painting practice, began teaching painting in 2017 in an effort to bring art to her community. She is the author of the painting how to / memoir (Painting Can Save Your Life: How and Why We Paint from Penguin Random House (think Bird by Bird meets The Joy of Painting!) . You can see her artwork here.
