One of our core goals is to help artists gain teaching experience so that they can help fund their creative practice through teaching others to do what they love to do.
To be considered to teach at The Painting School you must have a personal creative practice, a deep knowledge of the techniques you would be teaching, a passion for art history and contemporary art, a great energy and a desire to help other people become artists.
We are looking to hire teachers from many cultures, ethnicities, and backgrounds and we would love to hear from people who have both formal and informal learning experiences. Because our program is built around art history and contemporary art, your knowledge of artists and art movements is important to us, but how you got that knowledge is not.
Our studio at 67 Woodhull Street in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn is wheelchair-accessible and has 2 sunny studios with space for a wide variety of classes. While we are centered on helping people build creative lives around the transformative art of painting, we do offer workshops in other mediums. The majority of our programming is for adults, but we also offer programming for kids and families.
If you are interested in teaching at The Painting School please send a brief note to sara@thepaintingschool.org with a link to your artwork (if you don’t have a website, just let us know that in your note and we can find another way to look at your art), any relevant information about your teaching experience and what kind of classes or workshops you might be interested in doing. Please do not list any specific ideas for individual workshops that you might have, just give us the general area of what kind of teaching interests you.
