Join Tokoyo-born painter Yuri Shimojo, who lives between New York and Kyoto, for an afternoon of making meditative and personal artwork inspired by the drawings of Louise Bourgeois. The workshop is for all levels of experience, including total beginners!

Yuri will share the inspiration that Bourgeois’ drawings had on her own Sumi and Shu creative practice and lead participants through exercises to help them use Bourgeois’s artwork as a catalyst for their own drawings and paintings. Participants will have access to a wide range of materials, from Japanese inks to markers to ink and watercolor, and leave with a variety of art.

Participants will be encouraged to experiment with marks and lean into symbolism and storytelling, just as Bourgeois did. They will also enjoy experiencing the meditative creative practice that fuels Yuri’s own work and leave feeling relaxed and creatively stimlulated.
